Week in review Nov. 28th, 2004 @ 05:46 pm
Things got off to a good start with the newest arrival to our home — TiVo. Yep, we’ve finally joined the late 90s. Season passes for Lost, CSI:, Daily Show (does anyone know how to get it to not record the repeats?), and Gilmore Girls (technically its [info]hotdogbao’s TiVo…)

Then, the meal we’ve all been waiting for, Thanksgiving. After being “abandoned” by nearby family for travelling (Erik to Australia, Chan’s to Vegas), we inherited the largest turkey in the store, a 21 pound behemoth. This meant I was cooking a bird for my first time ever. I figured the bar for turkeys is pretty low, but I still didn’t want to dissapoint. Surprisingly, it came out pretty good. The sides, and its all about the sides, included mashed potatos, skillet cornbread, cranberry conserve, the-giblets-that-I-almost-couldn’t-find gravy, green beans, lasagne and pumpkin pie for dessert. I think there may’ve been more dishes… We’ve been eating leftovers nonstop since then. That means, wow, 5, soon to be 6, meals in a row of turkey.

Black Friday. Ah, America goes shopping. Must resist large flat television screens.

We watched National Treasure last night. Its as fluffy as you’d expect, but still entertains. Quite similar to Da Vinci Code, but not as good. I hear they’re making a movie of that with Tom Cruise in the leading role. Could be a winner.

Today’s been a couch potato day. Eagles clinched the division! Again! Hell yeah.

Been a long time… Oct. 31st, 2004 @ 01:40 pm
Where’ve I been in October?

In no particular order. Parents visited and stayed with us for 5 days. Moved into our new house! Working too much on an upcoming release. In and out of Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, and then back to all of them. Sounds like a movie quote:
College Student: A big day? Doing what?
Frank: Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we’re going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don’t know, I don’t know if we’ll have enough time.
Dressed up as the Japanese schoolkids from Battle Royale (not everyone got it, but it worked). My parents met [info]hotdogbao’s parents for the first time, which had potential to be “interesting”, but went remarkably well. Eagles won 4 games to put them at 7 and 0.

Happy Halloween everybody.

Our House Sep. 30th, 2004 @ 11:53 pm
[info]hotdogbao and I bought ourselves a house. Its been a long time coming and we’re pretty damn excited about the place. Its in the same neighborhood where I’ve been renting for the past two years. Once we get things setup, everyone’ll have to come visit, have a beer and bbq out on our deck. In the meantime, we’ve got clean, move out, move in, get HD TV (hell yeah!), and find a place for Noah’s litter box.

The Sports Guy now on RSS Sep. 24th, 2004 @ 11:42 pm
I dunno how long ESPN’s offered RSS, but the best part is you can get Bill Simmons’ column through it. His fantasy basketball drafts are my favorite, this year can’t be far away…

Labor Day Sunday Sep. 5th, 2004 @ 11:22 am
[info]istone is on his way over now. I’m taking him to his first game ever at PacBell Park to see the Giants. Can you say garlic fries? Hard to believe a Sacramento native hasn’t been to a game yet… Gotta thank FrankD for hooking me up with his box seats. I guess golfing in Eugene, Oregon ain’t bad either. Ah, and it looks like Randy Johnson is pitching — nice!

Tonite we’ll probably head over to [info]ryankicks’s bonfire on Ocean Beach (“no camping or erections”). I remember [info]istone being at the last one. Strange timing.

Summer has officially arrived here in the Bay Area. It had to’ve been 90 yesterday in the city. Hello dri-fit.

Went to a wedding tonite for one of [info]hotdogbao’s coworkers. It was a good time, and they held it at the 12 Galaxies in SF. I found it amusing if you do a google search for 12 galaxies, the 2nd hit is for that crazy dude who walks around union square.

As noted in my earlier post from today, its been damn hot around here. That typically means an uncomfortable time in a dress shirt for me… But I had a huge eureka while putting my clothes on. Dri-Fit t-shirt. Worked like a charm and, yep, I’ll be doing it again.

I’m not a McSweeney’s reader, but this list is a riot. Maybe I should give it a try? Email addresses it would be really annoying to give out over the phone:

Been a while since I posted. But, I’ve been busy, mostly. Last week, [info]hotdogbao and I headed on over to the east coast for a visit. Got to catch up with the grandparents and plenty of friends. Had a nice sorta rainy bbq over at Josh’s. I lost in beer pong to the Algazi’s, who’s younger brohter in happens to be in a frat, so they had quite an advantage… Saw Kopo and Cole who trudged on out to the burbs for some grub and drinks. Got to see Dan and Julie (who’s pregnant — congrats!), Auslander, and just about everyone. Great to catch up and see em all.

What else? This week’s been a blur, but I’m not sure I ever caught up on sleep until today. Summer is finally arrived out here in the bay area. I almost wish it hadn’t. Ok a bit drastic, but I’m too hot to do much of anything today.
» Dipsy do on the Dipsea Trail
Man that’s a bad pun for a blog post… Had a nice weekend with [info]istone in town visiting. Amber and his cousin also came out too. We did a whole bunch of eating and chatting. But in between all that, we went up to Stinson Beach and took a nice hike on the shortly named Mount Tamalpais/Matt Davis, Steep Ravine, Dipsea Loop. Bay Area Hiker has it as a favorite hike, and it is pretty nice. Nothing too difficult at about 7+ miles, but theres a good amount of uphill in there, but the views make it worthwhile.

Today we had some brunch at Tennessee Grill and followed it off with some entertaining by [info]noahbear and his eskimo yo-yo’s. Made chasing his own tail around look like nothing… Then we were off to [info]elo_sf and [info]phillipalden for a clambake. Quite tasty but nothing can compete with their homemade ice cream. Their cookies-n-cream easily beat the pint of Ben & Jerry’s Organic Sweet Cream & Cookies we’d bought Friday night.

PS. Amber, this icon is a Twinkie. And this is Dokomun.

Courtesy of Nate, tonite we had beef brisket and Mephis pork for dinner. We may’ve been inspired by BBQ week on foodtv…
» Oops, wrong car. Sorry.
This sounds like it was taken straight out of The Big Lebowski. I wonder if she went and got In-N-Out after?

Answers to everything you were afraid to ask about Donnie Darko (you might need a free day pass to read it). This should definitely be of interest to [info]istone, who introduced me to this movie last year.

» Mount Doom
Just back from a hiking trip in the Sierra’s at Mount Whitney. It’s the tallest mountain in the continental United States at 14,491 feet. I actually did it. In fact, going up wasn’t so bad… going down may’ve been among the most miserable experiences in my short life.

Eat seven saltine crackers in less than one minute without drinking anything. Its a lot harder than it sounds, I only got about 3 and a half…
» July 4th Weekend
We’re taking a long weekend vacation for July 4th. In what appears to be becoming an annual tradition, we’ll be spending this oh-so-American holiday in Canada. Last year it was Vancouver, this year Toronto. Making a trip over to Niagra Falls and a bit of other site seeing, but we’re really there for a wedding. Looking forward to getting away from my computer for bit…
